      Controls, checks & saving

Choose a square or a numbered clue. Type letters or use the on-screen keyboard. Tap the selected square again, press Enter, or use “Switch direction” to change Across/Down at a crossing. Arrow keys move through open squares; Backspace erases. Spaces are omitted from multiword answers.

Checks, reveals and Auto-check mark the result as assisted. Reveals fill a correct letter or entry; checks identify incorrect filled squares. Practice has no timer. Daily changes at midnight New York time. Progress is saved in this browser when local storage is available; it is not synced between devices.

Every 5×5 mini has three Across and three Down entries, all connected by crossings. The collection contains 25 distinct 5×5 grids. Unlimited cycles this finite library; it does not promise newly generated puzzles.

      Every square in its place.

      What Unlimited changes

The grid still uses Mini Mystery’s original 5×5 blocked crossword format. Across and Down answers share letters, and every open square must be right to finish. Unlimited changes the session: you can load another grid without a daily waiting period and use the puzzle choices to focus your practice.

This is a finite authored collection with no daily play cap. Playing a new session does not promise a newly written, never-before-seen crossword. Narrow choices can repeat sooner than the full bank.

Build a useful ten-minute practice session

      1. Choose a grid you have not just solved. Choose a topic and level, select Apply & play, and read the title of the resulting grid.
      2. Fill your most certain answer first. One correct five-letter entry can give several crossing letters.
      3. Finish the crossing answers before revealing. Test whether each letter still fits both clues.
      4. Check only when you need the feedback. Then read the explanation of the word you missed.
      5. Load another grid. Aim for fewer reveals, rather than simply a shorter time.

A clue can be correct in one sense and wrong in another

“A bird or a lifting machine” asks for CRANE. HERON has five letters and fits the bird half, but fails the machinery half. If you keep forcing HERON, the crossings will contradict it. That contradiction is useful: reread the clue instead of replacing letters at random.

Our worked mini crossword guide shows the whole crossing pattern of an original practice grid. It is a teaching example, not a feed of official puzzle answers.

Use help and save your progress

Check identifies mistakes in your entries; Reveal supplies the intended answer and is recorded as help. Practice is suited to relaxed learning. Progress stays in the current browser when storage is available, so clearing site data or switching devices starts a separate record.

      Frequently asked questions

Is there a limit on how many grids I can play?

There is no daily play cap. The authored bank is finite, so a long session can revisit a puzzle.

Will Unlimited replace my Daily result?

These are different modes. Use the mode label and the result’s puzzle details when comparing attempts; an Unlimited session is not today’s shared Daily challenge.

Can I use the clues without knowing crossword jargon?

Yes. Across reads horizontally and Down vertically. Start with the direct definitions and let their crossing letters help you with a double meaning.
